Joel Amit
Joel was born in Jerusalem in 1982. Since young age he was painting, sculpting and designing. Joel ׳s passion for creating brought him eventually to architecture studies in Bezalel Art and Design Academy, where he graduated with Excellency. Joel left Jerusalem to the Negev desert, where he’s planned and built student’s and artist’s villages, and lived there for 5 years. During his time in the south he has been experiencing with many different building materials and started to design new building units from concrete, wood, tubes, cardboard and paper. His interest was how to use small pieces of unclaimed material as constructing units of a large-scale structure.
Joel ׳s search for small “pixels” which can construct a larger form led him in the last years into art, this time – working with metal. Joel has established his studio in Jerusalem. He had created and currently presenting the series of works which he calls “Pixel-Art”. This series draws its inspiration from nature, as well as from the computerized world and the doors it opens for artistic creation. Joel finds the process of forming steel – such a heavy and cold material – into butterflies, fish, birds and feathers – liberating. Joel expresses the values of life, love and humor into his work, always in search for an extra dimension, a hidden layer and a challenge to the eye. Joel’s sole wish is to share it with others.
